The World Health Organisation Committee met on 27th April and took data on confirmed outbreaks of ‘Swine Influenza’ in the USA, Mexico and Canada. On the advice of the committee the Director General raised the alert level to Level 4.
At this level the World Health Organisation are communicating that containment of the virus is no longer possible and efforts are to be focussed on mitigation. The WHO do not recommend restricting international travel at this alert level but they will be assisting in the development of a vaccine effective against H1N1.
Biocair have worked closely with some major Pharmaceutical companies to ensure that our core processes are assessed for continuity in a pandemic situation. Pandemic preparedness required Biocair to take a fresh approach to Business Continuity Planning. The pandemic BCP scenario deviates from other scenarios as it may potentially last for months and include levels of absenteeism of 30 – 60%.
Biocair provide logistical support to major international and local University spin out companies in both end product distribution and the transport of bio-hazardous material in the Research and Development stages of vaccine production.
